The Thami Mnyele Fine Arts Awards (TMFAA) is a contemporary fine arts completion which seeks to inspire the passion that the late acclaimed resistance artist Thami Mnyele had for art. Thamsanqa (Thami) Mnyele (10 December 1948 – 14 June 1985) was a South African artist associated with the anti-apartheid politics of the African National Congress and the Black Consciousness Movement.
The Competition stands out as one of the most unique competitions in the South African soil. Le Roux's work was a part of the finalists in the 2019 awards.
ARTWORK SYNOPSIS
99.8% Alike comments on a recent article which I stumbled across, which stated that 99.8% of all human DNA across the world is the same, only .02% makes you you. I was so taken by this fact, the dancer slams strands of fabric and elements of identity back at the viewer in an attempt to reach out and engage. Her body is outlined by the home(lands), and her gaze is bold.
