Paintings

artist Jessica Michelle Le Roux

The multiple layers within each work mimic fragments of memory, observation, reflection and nostalgia. Each layer builds towards a culmination of fleeting moments and deep felt experiences.  I often seek to bring awareness towards the senses and our states of being on this planet in light of harmony and preservation. Interdisciplinary practice is how I go about doing so.

Vergeet my nie, acrylic & oils on birchwood panel, 60 X 150cm, sold

This work captures an impression of a scene from the Little Karoo—a place that has etched itself into my heart. It’s a landscape that is at once quiet, peculiar, and unmistakably South African. There is a stillness here that commands attention, a beauty that reveals itself to those who take the time to pause and engage. Pierneef’s iconic trees anchor the composition, standing as enduring markers of how history and the present are interwoven within South Africa’s complex socio-political fabric.
